The Sweet Side of Serotonin
Hey guys! Has 2018 seemed like about seven years stuffed into one or what?
If you’re anything like us, you’ve probably celebrated some big milestones, cried over a mess up or two, and found a way to just keep on trucking through. But today, on World Mental Health Day, we want to press the pause button for just a minute and talk about…wait for it…stress.
Let’s be real, with all that’s going on in our lives (and in the world in general), some stress is inevitable. Between work deadlines, keeping up with friends and family obligations …there’s a LOT to handle.
You’ve probably already got meditation, exercise, and deep breathing in your stress-beating bag of tricks. But did you know a taste of your favorite all-natural cookie dough can also help keep minor angst in check?
It can. And it all has to do with a naturally-occurring hormone in your body called serotonin.
Known as “the happy chemical”, serotonin has been shown to stave off anxiety and calm our minds. There are a few ways to increase your levels including plenty of exercise, more sunlight, and yes, a delicious boost of sugar. But, just a bit should do it. Or dough it. 😂
Here are our favorite ways to get a mid-afternoon boost with Edoughble.
Mosey down memory lane
Remember when you were little and your parents had to beg you to take a nap? And you were all “Scram, I’ve got HOURS of fun in me yet!” While we can’t approve a mid-day under the desk snooze, we CAN bring back those skinned-knee carefree days with nostalgic flavors like Milk n’ Cookies.
A couple of scoops of chocolate sandwich cookie crumbles in buttery dough may just transport you back to a simpler time, allowing you to get those stress levels down enough to tackle the rest of the day.
Don’t worry, be happy
When it comes to dessert, we are 100% equal opportunity. After all, our vegan, gluten-free, and paleo friends need serotonin too! And that’s why we’ve created special doughs to fit into just about any lifestyle.
Our brand new That Paleo Dough, Tho uses maple syrup, almond flour, and cashew butter to create that classic cookie dough flavor. It will more than get those “good mood” vibes flowing. One bite and you’ll head to your happy place, entirely guilt-free.
Chew your cold brew
Skip that insane after-lunch coffee line and dig into our new Cold Brew Espresso Chip. Coffee has been shown to increase the receptors of serotonin, which would explain that energy and mood boost that you get from that daily cup of joe.
With espresso beans covered in dark chocolate (also a known serotonin booster) you get a blast of coffee flavor and crunch in every bite. Perfect for that pre-presentation pick me up!
So, here are two spoons 🥄 🥄 up for serotonin. Please take the time to take care of yourselves and each other today and every day!
